Which of the following is mainly used in electronic scanning?

(a) Phase shifters

(b) Amplifiers

(c) Repeaters

(d) Limiters

The question was posed to me in examination.

I'm obligated to ask this question of Phased Array topic in section Phased, Adaptive and Binomial Arrays of Antennas

Right answer is (a) Phase shifters

For explanation I would say: Electronic scanning is flexible and also requires low maintenance. Electronic scanning is composed of phase shifters, electrical circuits that steer the beam. For the beam to change its direction, the phase of the radiators has to be changed and so the phase shifters used.
