Why do the hypoid gears require special lubricant?

I have been asked this question in unit test.

My enquiry is from Universal Joints and Differential in chapter Chassis & Transmission System of Automobile Engineering

Easiest explanation: Hypoid gears require special lubricant because of the extreme pressure between the teeth. The sliding motion of the teeth is effective due to the use of special lubricant.
