In which of the gearbox sun and planet gear set is used?

(a) Constant-mesh gearbox

(b) Sliding mesh gearbox

(d) Epicyclical gearbox

The question was posed to me in an online interview.

I need to ask this question from Transmission System in chapter Chassis & Transmission System of Automobile Engineering

Right choice is (d) Epicyclical gearbox

The best I can explain: In epicyclic gearbox, the sun and planet gears are used. Using this arrangement various gear ratios can be obtained. Also, this type of gearbox is compact in design than other types of gearbox.
