Which of the following is the hottest part of the spark plug?

(a) Terminal

(b) Insulator tip

(c) Shell

(d) Gasket

This question was addressed to me during an internship interview.

My question is from Conventional Ignition System topic in portion Conventional Ignition System of Automotive Engine Design

Right answer is (b) Insulator tip

The best I can explain: The insulator nose length is the distance from the firing end of the insulator to the point where the insulator meets the metal shell. The insulator tip is the hottest part of the spark plug, which makes the tip temperature, the main factor in pre-ignition and fouling.
