Theoretically, the inlet valve should close at what position of the piston?

(a) Bottom dead centre

(b) Side centre position

(c) Bottom side position

(d) Top dead centre

The question was posed to me by my school principal while I was bunking the class.

The origin of the question is Valve Timing in portion Valve Timing Technologies of Automotive Engine Design

Right choice is (a) Bottom dead centre

For explanation: Theoretically the inlet valve should close at Bottom dead centre position of the piston.The exhaust valve opens before the piston reaches BDC in its power stroke.
