Which of the following determines the direction of the antenna beam in ESA?

I got this question in an interview for job.

My doubt stems from Electronic Scanned Array Radar topic in division Surveillance Systems, Mapping and Multimode Radars of Avionics

The correct choice is (c) Slope of the phase taper

The best I can explain: The ESA controls the beam by phase shifters. The slope of the phase taper determines the direction in which the antenna beam will be pointed.
