How many independent equations are possible, if two components are involved in each of streams?

This question was posed to me by my school principal while I was bunking the class.

My question comes from Material Balances Problems Involving Multiple Units topic in division The Chemical Reaction Equation & Stoichometry, Material Balances for Processes Involving Reaction and Multiple Units of Basic Chemical Engineering

Correct option is (d) 4

Easiest explanation: It will be just the double of the number of independent equations if there was only one component.
