How long would it take for an irreversible process to complete?

The question was posed to me at a job interview.

This is a very interesting question from Ideal Reversible Processes in division Energy Balances that Include the Effects of Chemical Reaction, Ideal Processes, Efficiency and the Mechanical Energy Balance and Heats of Solution and Mixing of Basic Chemical Engineering

For explanation I would say: It takes a finite time for an irreversible process to complete.
