How is the residual catalyst removed during the manufacture of polyethylene?

(a) By adding water

(b) By adding sulfuric acid

(c) By adding nitric acid

(d) By adding phosphoric acid

I had been asked this question during an online exam.

My question comes from Ethenic Polymers in portion Polymerization Industries of Chemical Technology

Correct answer is (a) By adding water

The explanation: The residual catalyst is removed from the polyethylene by adding water. Water is added because the residual catalyst is highly flammable in dry conditions. Adding acid would increase the flammability.
