What does the red area formed on the plane represents?

I have been asked this question at a job interview.

Correct option is (d) Projection

The explanation: It represents projection on the intersected plane of an object. The rays of sight are extended further to meet perpendicularly a vertical plane or horizontal plane thus forming the red area (in th fig.) on the planes.
