Which process is used to make the steel soft?

(a) Hardening

(b) Nitriding

(c) Annealing

The question was posed to me by my college director while I was bunking the class.

The question is from Steel in chapter Steel, Timber, Mortar, Plastics, Non-Ferrous Metals and Alloys of Construction & Building Materials

Correct option is (c) Annealing

Best explanation: The process which is used to make the steel soft is called annealing. However, hardening is a process that is the reverse of the annealing process. With the process of hardening, the steel is made hard.
