Which motor has almost replaced DC shunt motor from its applications?

(a) Wound-rotor induction motor

(b) Differential compound motor

(d) Squirrel caged induction motor

I have been asked this question by my college professor while I was bunking the class.

My question is based upon Applications of DC Machines topic in division DC Machines of DC Machines

Correct option is (d) Squirrel caged induction motor

The best explanation: Owing to the relative simplicity, cheapness and ruggedness of the squirrel cage induction motor, the shunt motor is less preferred for constant-speed drives except at low speeds. At high or medium speed applications we use induction motor, mostly squirrel caged.
