Regenerative method of braking is based on ___________

I have been asked this question during an interview.

My question is taken from Braking of DC Motors topic in section DC Motors of DC Machines

The correct answer is (c) Back emf of rotor is more than the applied voltage

Explanation: The condition for regeneration is that the rotational emf is more than the applied voltage so that the current is reversed and the mode of operation changes from motoring to generating.
