What should be the maximum width of the edge conductors used in the large alternators?

(a) 6 mm

(b) 5 mm

(c) 4 mm

(d) 3 mm

The question was posed to me in class test.

Right answer is (a) 6 mm

Easy explanation: The field coils of the large alternators use strip on edge winding wherein the bare copper strips are insulated from each other by interturn insulation. The width of the edge conductors does not exceed 6 mm.
