This question was posed to me in homework.

My question is taken from DC Motor Starting topic in division DC Motors of Electrical Machines

Right choice is (a) reduces flux per pole

For explanation: A generator given a forward brush shift will get its flux density reduced at the pole as the flux will be in the opposite direction.
