I have been asked this question in semester exam.

My doubt stems from Starting of Polyphase Induction Motors-I topic in section Starting of Induction Motors of Electrical Machines

Correct option is (a) maximum torque

To explain I would say: Maximum torque, reduction of inrush current and variable turns ratio makes it a popular method of starting of IM.
