What is the role of scale illumination in a CRO?

This question was addressed to me in an internship interview.

My question is based upon Front Panel Controls of CRO topic in chapter Oscilloscopes of Electrical Measurements

The correct option is (a) measurement

The best explanation: In a Cathode Ray Oscilloscope the scale illumination is basically used for the purpose of measurement. It basically illuminates the scale and as a result the reading can be clearly seen.
