The boundary between the Fresnel and Fraunhofer zones having a length of 12 units and a wavelength of 3 units is

The question was asked by my college professor while I was bunking the class.

This intriguing question originated from Transverse Magnetic Waves(TM) in division Waveguides of Electromagnetic Theory

Right answer is (a) 96

The explanation: The Fresnel- Fraunhofer boundary is related by the wavelength as R = 2L^2/λ. On substituting for L = 12 and λ = 3, we get R = 2 x 12^2/3 = 96 units.
