Right option is (d) They used to upgrade wastewater treatment

To elaborate: Aquatic weeds are used to upgrade wastewater treatment lagoons and treat chemical wastewaters. It can readily absorb, accumulate and concentrate heavy metals such as lead, mercury and cadmium.
