Which of the following is least stable?

(a) Anti conformation

(b) Gauche conformation

(c) Staggered conformation

(d) Eclipsed conformation

I had been asked this question during an online exam.

This is a very interesting question from Conformations in division Structure and Stereostructure of Molecules of Engineering Chemistry I

Correct option is (d) Eclipsed conformation

To explain I would say: Eclipsed conformation is the least stable due to its high torsional energy. The potential energy of n-butane is maximum for eclipsed conformations.
