At what temperature does the H2S and olefin gases are evolved in the process of carbonisation?

(a) 700^oC

(b) 450^oC

(c) 270^oC

(d) 110^oC

This question was posed to me in an interview.

I want to ask this question from Secondary Solid Fuels in division Fuels and Combustion of Engineering Chemistry II

The correct choice is (c) 270^oC

The best explanation: In the process of carbonisation, the bituminous coal is slowly heated to remove moisture and occluded gases. Then at 270^oC H2S and olefin gases are evolved. At about 450^oC the liberated gases consist of hydrocarbons and at 700^oC hydrogen gas is liberated.
