The question is from Reverse Osmosis in portion Water and its Treatment of Engineering Chemistry II

Right option is (a) 500 ppm

For explanation I would say: The total hardness of the potable water should be less than 500 ppm. Water having hardness more than 500 ppm is not safe for consumption.
