I had been asked this question in an interview.

Right choice is (b) rotary motion, linear motion

Easiest explanation: Spring stores the forces in form of potential energy but cam is just a machine member which is designed as shaft or plate etc. as for required movement follower either uniform or variable, depending upon the shape of cam profile.
