This question was posed to me by my college professor while I was bunking the class.

Correct choice is (a) Circle

The best I can explain: A cone is formed by reducing the cross-section of a circle the point. So there exist circles along the cone parallel to the base. Since the given plane is parallel to the base of the regular cone. The cross-section will be circle.
