When the plunge said to be zero, then the axis of the fold is said to be ____________

(a) Vertical

(b) Horizontal

(c) Inclined at 60° to the horizontal

(d) Inclined at 60° to its normal.

This question was posed to me in an interview for internship.

This interesting question is from Parts of a Fold in portion Folds and Folding of Engineering Geology

The correct answer is (b) Horizontal

The best explanation: Axis is a line and plunge is the angle which the line makes with a horizontal. A fold having a horizontal axis will obviously have a zero plunge.
