Which of the following is not applicable for normalising process?

(a) Economical

(b) Time-consuming

(c) Fine grain structure

(d) Variable properties

This question was addressed to me in an interview.

The doubt is from Normalising & Quenching in division Heat Treatment of Engineering Material & Metallurgy

Right choice is (b) Time-consuming

To explain I would say: Normalising is carried out by heating of the steel at higher temperatures (compared to annealing) and then cooling it in still air. Since cooling is different at different locations, their properties will also vary. It also provides a fine grain structure and is less time-consuming.
