I have been asked this question in an internship interview.

I'd like to ask this question from Moment of Inertia for Areas in portion Moments of Inertia of Engineering Mechanics

Correct option is (a) 11m^2

The best I can explain: Parallel axis for any area is used to add the two mutually perpendicular moment of inertias for areas. It gives a moment of inertia perpendicular to the surface of the body. That is the moment of inertia perpendicular to the surface in considerance.
