What is the relationship between B21 and B12?

(a) B12 > B21

(b) B12 < B21

(c) B12 = B21

I had been asked this question by my college professor while I was bunking the class.

This intriguing question originated from Einstein Coefficients topic in division Laser of Engineering Physics II

The correct answer is (c) B12 = B21

Explanation: B21 is the coefficient for the stimulated emission while B12 is the coefficient for stimulated absorption. Both the processes are mutually reverse processes and their probabilities are equal. Therefore, B12 = B21.
