The brake power of a diesel engine, keeping other parameters constant, can be increased by ______________

(a) decreasing the density of intake air

(b) increasing the temperature of intake air

(c) increasing the pressure of intake air

The correct answer is:

(c) increasing the pressure of intake air

Increasing the pressure of intake air (through supercharging or turbocharging) increases the amount of air (and oxygen) entering the engine, allowing for more fuel to be burned. This results in a higher power output, or brake power, as more fuel can be combusted more efficiently. This technique helps improve engine performance by enabling it to produce more power under the same operating conditions.
