How do the small molecules pass through the outer membrane of mitochondria?

The question was posed to me in unit test.

My enquiry is from Mitochondria topic in chapter Cell Structure and Functions of Life Sciences

Right choice is (d) Porins

For explanation I would say: Mitochondrial porins are voltage-dependent anion-selective channels (VDAC). Being present on the outer membrane of mitochondria it allows small molecules to pass.
