What is treadmilling?

(a) Depolymerization of microtubule

(b) The breaking of heterodimer chain

(c) Arrangement of microtubules

(d) Addition of tubulin heterodimer

This question was posed to me in an online quiz.

My question comes from Cytoskeleton topic in section Cell Structure and Functions of Life Sciences

Correct choice is (d) Addition of tubulin heterodimer

The best I can explain: Treadmilling is the process of adding tubulin heterodimer at one end and dissociating another heterodimer from other ends. This will keep the polymer length same or unchanged.
