Which of the following class does NOT belong to phenolic compounds?

(a) Xanthone

(b) Lignans

(c) Gossypol

(d) Flavonoids

I had been asked this question in homework.

My question is taken from Plant Secondary Metabolites in chapter Plant Physiology of Life Sciences

Correct answer is (c) Gossypol

Easiest explanation: Phenolic compounds have been characterized by the number of carbon atom it contains. Except for gossypol all other are phenolic compounds. Gossypol is the example of terpenes.
