In pulse width modulated inverters, the output voltage is controlled by controlling the

(a) input frequency

(b) modulating index

(c) amplification factor

(d) none of the mentioned

This question was addressed to me during an internship interview.

The question is from PWM Inverters-4 topic in chapter Inverters of Power Electronics

Correct answer is (b) modulating index

For explanation I would say: MI = Vr/Vc.

MI controls the output voltage waveform, as it is proportional to the fundamental component of the output voltage.
