What defines the date when information becomes invalid?

(b) expires: date string

I got this question in exam.

I want to ask this question from CSS Transition, Perl cgi Programming topic in division CGI Programming & Miscellaneous of CSS

The correct option is (b) expires: date string

To explain I would say: expires: sate string defines the date when information becomes invalid. This should be used by the browser to decide when a page needs to be refreshed. A valid date string should be in the format 01 Jan 1998 12:00:00 GMT.
