Which bit is reserved as a parity bit in an ASCII set?

(b) seventh

(c) eighth

(d) tenth

The question was posed to me by my college professor while I was bunking the class.

This is a very interesting question from Greedy Algorithms topic in chapter Greedy Algorithms of Data Structures & Algorithms II

The correct answer is (c) eighth

The best I can explain: In an ASCII character set, seven bits are reserved for character representation while the eighth bit is a parity bit.
