Which is the only step function that provides non-linear mapping?

I want to ask this question from Secure Hash Algorithms (SHA) topic in division Other Public Key Cryptosystems and Cryptographic Hash Functions of Cryptograph & Network Security

The correct answer is (d) Chi

To explain I would say: The Chi function provides non-linear mapping. Without it SHA-3 would be linear.
