What happens to the energy of a particle, in SHM, with time in the presence of damping forces?

(a) Stays constant

(b) Decreases linearly

(c) Decreases exponentially

(d) Decreases cubically

I have been asked this question by my school teacher while I was bunking the class.

Correct option is (c) Decreases exponentially

The explanation is: Energy in presence of damping forces is given by: 1/2kA^2e^-bt/m.                                                       This shows that kinetic energy decreases exponentially with time.
