Why are alkali metals most suited as photo-sensitive metals?

I have been asked this question by my school principal while I was bunking the class.

My question is from Photoelectric Effect topic in portion Dual Nature of Radiation and Matter of Physics – Class 12

The correct choice is (d) Low work function

The best explanation: Alkali metals have low work functions. Even visible radiation can eject out electrons from them. So alkali metals are the most suitable photo-sensitive metals.
