What is the function of the receiver?

(c) Operating on the received signal

This question was posed to me by my school principal while I was bunking the class.

My enquiry is from Elements of a Communication System topic in chapter Communication Systems of Physics – Class 12

Right answer is (c) Operating on the received signal

For explanation I would say: The receiver does the function of operating on the received signal. The receiver reconstructs a recognizable form of the original message signal in order to deliver the signal to the user of information.
