Which of the following is not a compound of mortar?

(a) Phenol

(b) Quicklime

(c) Sand

(d) Water

I had been asked this question during an online interview.

My enquiry is from s-Block Elements in section s-Block Elements of Chemistry – Class 11

Right answer is (a) Phenol

To explain I would say: Quicklime or calcium oxide (CaO) is used as a basic flux, for removing the hardness of water, also used in mortar. A mixture of quick lime and sand in the ratio 1:3 with enough water to make a thick place is called motor.
