The question was posed to me in an online interview.

My question is based upon Preparation of Aldehydes and Ketones in portion Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic Acids of Chemistry – Class 12

The correct answer is (b) CrO2Cl2

Explanation: This is known as Etard reaction. The chromyl chloride oxidises the methyl group to a chromium complex in CS2. This complex on hydrolysis gives benzaldehyde.
