Which of these statements is not true regarding the cell membrane?

(a) The phosphate heads are polar

(b) It is a phospholipid bilayer

(c) The hydrophilic tails face outwards

(d) It contains integral proteins

The question was posed to me by my school principal while I was bunking the class.

The correct option is (c) The hydrophilic tails face outwards

To elaborate: The cell membrane is a phospholipid bilayer in which the polar and hydrophilic phosphate head groups face outwards, while the non-polar and hydrophilic lipid tails face each other.
