Which of these molecules can hold iodine molecules?

(a) Starch

(b) Cellulose

(c) Chitin

(d) Sucrose

The question was posed to me by my college professor while I was bunking the class.

I'm obligated to ask this question of Biomolecules in division Biomolecules of Biology – Class 11

Right choice is (a) Starch

To explain: The secondary structure of starch is helical and can hold iodine molecules in its structure. Cellulose and chitin do not have helices and hence cannot hold iodine. Sucrose is a disaccharide.
