How do chromatids reach the poles of the cells during anaphase?

(a) Action of centromeres

(b) Disintegration of spindle fibers

(c) Shortening of microtubules

(d) Movement of arms of chromatids

This question was posed to me in an interview for job.

Right answer is (c) Shortening of microtubules

The explanation is: During anaphase, the chromatids are separated and start moving towards the poles from the metaphase plate. This occurs by the shortening of the microtubules which pulls the chromatids towards the poles.
