For explanation: As shown in the diagram below, p(-3, 5) means that its x-coordinate is -3 and y-coordinate is 5. Therefore point’s distance from y-axis will be 3 in negative direction (Along XX’ axis) and its distance from x-axis will be 5 in positive direction (along OY axis).

Considering this, we can locate the point p(-3, 5) as shown in diagram which lies in 2^nd quadrant.
