How much thickness of cracks may arise beyond HAZ due to rapid cooling?

(a) 1.6 mm

(b) 2.6 mm

(c) 3.6 mm

(d) 4.6 mm

The question was posed to me in an interview for job.

My question is based upon PBM in chapter Thermal Processes of Advanced Machining

Correct option is (a) 1.6 mm

For explanation I would say: The cracks due to rapid cooling in PBM may extend beyond HAZ to a thickness of 1.6 mm.
