A material has elastic constant of 100MPa and Poisson’s ratio as 10. Find the shear modulus of the material.

(a) 4.55MPa

(b) 2.345MPa

(c) 1.2Gpa

(d) 345.23KPa

I have been asked this question by my school teacher while I was bunking the class.

The origin of the question is Structures Fundamentals in section Structures and Loads of Aircraft Design

Right answer is (a) 4.55MPa

For explanation I would say: Shear modulus = Elastic constant / (2+2*Poisson’s ratio)

= 100 MPa / (2+2*10) = 4.55 MPa.
