Which of the following gases are used in the proportional counter as the ionising gas?

(a) Alcohol

(b) Argon gas

(c) Krypton

(d) Hydrogen

I have been asked this question in an internship interview.

My query is from Radiation Detectors in division Radiochemical Techniques of Analytical Instrumentation

Right answer is (c) Krypton

The best I can explain: Proportional counter is filled with krypton. It acts as ionising gas. Xenon can also be used.
