Most connecting rods in high-speed engines have which cross-section?

(b) Square

(c) I-section

(d) C- section

I have been asked this question during an interview.

This is a very interesting question from IC Engine topic in portion Design of IC Engine Components of Automotive Engine Design

The correct answer is (c) I-section

For explanation: I-sections are efficient in terms of material usage, it can bear high loads and can reduce the deflections. High-speed engines are with V-configuration and more than 4 cylinders. Hence, I-section is used.
