Which type motors are preferred for lathes?

(a) DC shunt motors

(b) Squirrel Cage induction motor

(c) Synchronous motor

(d) DC Shunt Motors or Squirrel cage induction motor

This question was posed to me by my school teacher while I was bunking the class.

My enquiry is from Applications of DC Machines in portion DC Machines of DC Machines

Right option is (d) DC Shunt Motors or Squirrel cage induction motor

Best explanation: Lathes machines requires uniform torque which is provided with squirrel cage induction or DC shunt motors. Hence, they are preferred for lathes. DC shunt motor and induction motor of squirrel cage type follow same shunt characteristics.
